Glowing Hearts Events Benefit Initiatives including Operation Husky

 

Events took place in Vancouver (Tue Oct 16), Toronto (Thu Oct 25) and Montreal (Wed Nov 7) to support continual funding of Canada Company initiatives including a very special project to commemorate the 70th anniversary of OPERATION HUSKY, July 2013, in Sicily (Italy) being led by Steve Gregory (QC Chapter President).

The Vancouver event was held at the “Drill Hall” of the British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught’s Own) on Tuesday Oct 16 2012 with over $19K raised by the 130 people in attendance. Special guest speakers included Stephen Gregory, Executive Committee Member of Canada Company, Founder of Operation Husky 2013, and President of IsaiX Technologies Inc.; HLCOL Rod Hoffmeister, Honorary Lieutenant Colonel, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, Member of Canada Company and HCOL Donald Hewson, President of Canada Company, British Columbia and Honorary Colonel of 19 Wing Comox.

180 people gathered at Moss Park Armoury/Officers’ Mess of the 48th Highlanders of Canada on Thursday, October 25th, 2012 and raised over $45K at the Toronto event. Special guest speakers included Stephen Gregory; MGen John C. Collin, Commander, 1st Canadian Division; Ms. Eve Adams, Veterans Affairs Parliamentary Secretary in the House of Commons; and Alex Jurshevski, Executive Committee Member of Canada Company, Managing Partner, Recovery Partners.

The Minister of National Defence, the Honourable Peter MacKay, was on hand to deliver a welcoming address at the Montreal event that was held Wednesday, November 7th, 2012. “Operation Husky 2013 will make sure that this tale of valour and sacrifice will never be forgotten,” said MacKay. On Tuesday November 8, 2011 Les Fleurons Glorieux was held at Montréal’s Windsor Station as a celebration of thanks to the members of our Canadian Forces who have reached the end of a long combat mission in Afghanistan.

The final rotation, comprised of troops primarily from Quebec, were honoured during this very special evening that included·over 700 guests who dined and danced amongst political dignitaries and Quebec vedettes (including Jonas, Ben Mulroney, Caroline Néron, Guy Lafleur, Joannie Rochette and Alexandre Bilodeau). There was also a special taped tribute from Celine Dion.

Special recognition goes to Quebec Chapter President Steve Gregory, and Fleurons Glorieux Honorary Co-Chairs Paul Desmaris Jr., Pierre Beaudoin, Marc Parent and Louis Vachon. Event proceeds will help support Canada Company Scholarships, Summer Camps for children of Canadian Forces Personnel and other events and activities that support Canadian Military Families.
