The Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls is located along the eastern shores of Lake of the Woods which is one of the world’s largest inland, freshwater lakes with over 14,000 islands and 65,000 miles of shoreline. The region is known for its hiking trails, provincial parks, fishing, kayaking adventures and pristine beaches. In the early days the economy was driven mostly by logging then fisheries and gold mines.

The community’s military history includes participation in the 1885 Riel Rebellion, WWI, WWII, Bosnia and Afghanistan. The most recent conflict in Afghanistan saw members of the local Reserve Unit 116 Independent Field Battery, RCA, completing 14 total tours. This Battery draws people from Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Fort Frances and Rainy River which encompasses one of the largest geographical areas of any Canadian Reserve Unit.
