{"id":169,"date":"2018-09-07T20:15:11","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T20:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.canadacompany.ca\/?page_id=169"},"modified":"2026-07-09T15:28:53","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T19:28:53","slug":"our-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.canadacompany.ca\/en\/about\/our-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Our History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our history demonstrates the commitment of Canada Company to ensuring Canadian military members, veterans, and their families receive the widest support, care, and recognition they deserve.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Look back to where you have been, for a clue to where you are going<\/p>\n<cite>McAndrews and Company<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group history-list has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group expanded has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2006<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We began at the height of the Afghanistan conflict with the goal of providing children of fallen soldiers access to post-secondary education.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the years that followed, Canada Company raised the required funds to launch the Scholarship program.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We solidified our role as advocates for Canadian troops, fallen soldiers, and their families by lobbying for amendments to war exclusion causes in mortgage life insurance policies for military members.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2008<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first 3 scholarship recipients were awarded funding.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2009-2012<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With 300 members and a strong funding model, we focused our attention on building programs to improve quality of life for Canadian military members, their families, and veterans.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our Central and Eastern chapters welcomed&nbsp;home the final rotation of troops returning from Afghanistan. To help those re-entering the Canadian workforce find civilian employment, we launched the Employment Resource Centre.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also championed projects like Sharing the Sacrifice to compensate employers of deployed reservists, we supported camps for children of deployed parents, and we participated in Captains of Industry events to educate civilian leaders on military exercises.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2013-2014<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We took the lead in the administration of the LAV III Monument Program with the Government of Canada and General Dynamics Land Systems Canada.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By special invitation, Canada Company also contributed to an international commemoration ceremony for Op Husky.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We created the Top Military Friendly Employer Award.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also celebrated the launch of the Compensation for Employers of Reservists Program by the Canadian government.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2015-2017<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through generous support from donors and sponsors, we expanded the Scholarship program to include children of military members who took their own lives as attributed to military service.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We achieved a four-star charity rating by Charity Intelligence based on our many successful programs and strong fundraising ratio.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We celebrated the 10<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Scholarship program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-cc-243-f-66-color has-text-color has-link-color has-merriweather-font-family has-large-font-size has-custom-font wp-elements-1\" style=\"font-family:merriweather\">Building Strong Programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through the success of the Military Employment Transition (MET) Program, Canada Company continued to advocate and support veterans in their search for civilian employment. A partnership with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) allowed Canada Company to provide a higher level of support for the military members and their spouses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Averaging three hires a day, the MET Program welcomed more employers and expanded to include the MET Spouse program. Canada Company launched the MET Pathfinder matchmaking app to support military members, veterans, spouses, and civilian employers in their search for employment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-cc-243-f-66-color has-text-color has-link-color has-merriweather-font-family has-large-font-size has-custom-font wp-elements-2\" style=\"font-family:merriweather\">Fostering Exchange and Education<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada Company continued to foster meaningful exchange between the CAF and the corporate world through national and regional events. In 2016, the first group of Top Military Friendly Employers in Canada was recognized. Strategic Knowledge Exchange events brought military and civilian leaders together to discuss topics of common interest, including the 2016 Defence Policy Review Outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Working with the Canadian Education and Research Institute for Counselling (CERIC), Canada Company contributed to the development of a guide on military culture and competencies. Canada Company also leveraged our resources to educate civilians on military matters through events that encouraged participants to share their experiences, including taking part in the Collaborative Spirit Exercises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada Company donated over $50,000 to military family centres and over $100,000 to support various activities and benevolent funds across Canadian military units and regiments. In addition, Canada Company sponsored celebration and recognition events and campaigns for military members and their families across our different Chapters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-cc-243-f-66-color has-text-color has-link-color has-merriweather-font-family has-large-font-size has-custom-font wp-elements-3\" style=\"font-family:merriweather\">Our Accomplishments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking back at the many accomplishments of Canada Company, it\u2019s clear the future of our organization is strong. Since 2006, Canada Company has grown, served our Canadian military members, their families, and our veterans through many programs and education initiatives. Canada Company has established itself as an influential voice advocating for our troops at home and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like many other projects championed by Canada Company, the accomplishments of the MET Program served as a proof of concept for fully funded government services to support our veterans.
