Project Hero was founded in 2009 by Retired General Rick Hillier and Honorary Lt. Colonel Kevin Reed, and is a program which provides undergraduate scholarships to children of fallen soldiers. Through an association with some of Canada's finest colleges and universities, Project Hero enables them o offer tuition and in some cases, additional support including room and board in the first year, to children of Canadian Forces personnel who have lost their lives while serving in an active mission

At present participating Institutions are located in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC.
