Canada Company Awards Another $44,000 to Children of the Fallen

On Friday, August 16th in the heart of Toronto’s financial district, hundreds of Bay Street workers stopped to watch as nine of eleven children of Military members who died while serving our Country received a scholarship for their post secondary education. For the sixth year in a row, senior leaders from business and the Military came together in support of these children.

The Honourable Robert Nicholson, Minister of National Defence said in a statement, “Each year Canada Company’s scholarships recognize the immense value of education for Canada’s youth while also paying tribute to the ultimate sacrifices made by Canadian Armed Forces members and their families. It is an honour to acknowledge Canada Company’s contributions to the education of children of fallen service men and women.”

Lieutenant General Marquis Hainse, Commander of the Canadian Army and Vice Admiral Mark Norman, Commander, Royal Canadian Navy joined Blake Goldring, Founder and Chair of Canada Company to present the cheques to this year’s recipients.

Sheralynn Kennedy, the daughter of Master Corporal Tim Wilson of the Second Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, who was serving in Afghanistan when he died on March 5, 2006. Sheralynn is working towards her doctorate in psychology at the University of Winnipeg, and hopes to work with troubled adolescents.

Kevon and Matthew Mellish are the children of Warrant Officer Frank Robert Mellish of the 1st Batallion, Royal Canadian Regiment, who was serving in Afghanistan when he died on September 3rd, 2006. Kevon and Matthew Mellish are both attending the University of New Brunswick.

Milann Mitchell is the daughter of Captain Bryan Mitchell. Capt. Mitchell was a pilot with 431 (Air Demonstration) Squadron - the Snowbirds precision aerobatics team based at 15 Wing, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He died during a training exercise on October 9, 2008. Milann is attending the University of Saskatchewan.

Arina Naismith is the daughter of Captain Kevin Naismith, who died in Northern Alberta on May 26th, 2003. He was a member of the 416 Tactical Fighter Squadron and was taking part in an international air combat exercise at the time. Arina is currently attending the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology.

Francis David and Marisa Paul are the children of Captain Frank Paul, who died on February 10, 2010. Francis David is studying Motion Picture Arts at Capilano University, while Marisa is studying Social Science at the University of Western Ontario.

Laura Squires is the daughter of Sergeant Hedley Jerry Squires, who died in Greece on August 25th, 1999. She is attending Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton.

Caitlyn and Ryan Ternapolski are the children of Master Corporal John Ternapolski Junior, who died in Bosnia on March 25, 1993. Caitlyn is enrolled in the Medical Technician program at St. Lawrence College while Ryan is studying Nursing at Laurentian University.

Jasmine Vialette is the daughter of Corporal Robert Daniel Vialette, who died in Bosnia on July 21st, 1997. She will be studying Pre-Veterinarian Sciences at Dalhousie University.
